Everyone is unique. Each one of us have their own personal struggles. Plus, each individual responds differently to certain methods. For this reason, I evaluate what approach would work for you after the first session.
I love working in a structured, goal-oriented way. I tend to work using a time-limited recovery plan. believe it is important to see the light at the end of the tunnel and leave you with helpful tools and techniques to help you cope in your future life.
I mix techniques from Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Cognitive-Analytical Therapy (CAT), and mindfulness. Cognitive Therapy centers on identifying and changing inaccurate or distorted thinking patterns, emotional responses, and behaviours.
The first technique, CBT, centers around keeping a diary of a particular problem you want to tackle. It teaches the client to actively identify and change thought patterns and to change their behaviour. CBT has been scientifically proven to be the most effective method for clients that suffer from anxiety, depression and obsessive compulsive disorders.
Whereas, CAT works in a more collaborative and interpersonal manner. I aim to let the client understand the origin of their issues in previous relationships and experiences. It further identifies people’s traps (e.g. vicious circles), dilemma’s (e.g. false choices) and snags (e.g. false beliefs). We work together to stop sabotaging yourself.
Finally, mindfulness is a type of meditation that can be used in everyday life. You learn to focus on being intensely aware of what you are sensing and feeling in the moment, without interpretation or judgment. It involves breathing methods, and other practices to relax the body and mind, and to help reduce stress.
